[NEW] Drones - Unmanned Aircraft Systems
The Los Altos Police Department uses Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones) to enhance the department's mission of protecting lives and property when other means and resources are not available or are less effective. Any use of a UAS will be in strict accordance with constitutional and privacy rights and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
Los Altos Police Department drone operators are Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107 certified and have completed drone training certified by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training. Los Altos Police Department understands the privacy concerns related to drone use and takes reasonable precautions to respect the public’s expectation of privacy. This is accomplished by following comprehensive department policy, FAA altitude regulations, and current case law.
