Statement from Police Chief Averiett and the Los Altos Police Department on the Death of Tyre Nichols

Los Altos, Calif. — January 27, 2023 — The Los Altos Police Department offers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Tyre Nichols, who was brutally killed at the hands of five former Memphis police officers. We strongly condemn the behaviors and actions of the involved officers. The women and men of the Los Altos Police Department are deeply troubled by this horrific and senseless act against another human being. The Los Altos Police Department re-affirms its promise to respect the sanctity of human lives and to treat all with dignity, respect, and compassion, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, or disability.
