Los Altos Police Seek Public's Help in Burglary Investigation

Los Altos, Calif. — October 1, 2024 — On Saturday, September 28, between 1:30-2 PM, three male suspects gained entry into an occupied home in the 700 block of Covington Road by smashing a rear glass door. The suspects were scared away by the occupants and fled the scene without taking any items. The home’s occupants were unharmed. The suspects were seen driving a newer model gray Dodge Durango with tinted windows and no license plates; the windshield on the passenger side is marked with identifying items.

Prior to the burglary, a fourth suspect, a female, was observed on surveillance footage approaching the front door of the residence, appearing to hold a box of candy. Investigators believe this was a ruse to determine if anyone was home. After no one answered the door, the three male suspects entered the backyard of the residence and forced entry into the home.

The Los Altos Police Department is releasing photos and descriptions of four suspects involved:

  • Suspect 1: Hispanic or African American female with a medium to heavy build, curly/frizzy hair in a ponytail, wearing a black sweatshirt, blue pants, and a light-colored medical mask.
  • Suspect 2: Male (race unknown) with a slim build, wearing a gray sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, a medical mask, and white sneakers.
  • Suspect 3: Male (race unknown) with a slim build, wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, possible gray sweatpants, a white medical mask, and black gloves.
  • Suspect 4: Male (race unknown) with a slim build, wearing a light-colored sweatshirt, black pants, red boxer-style underwear, a medical mask, and black gloves.

Investigators are asking residents living in the nearby neighborhood where the crime occurred, including side streets off Covington Road, to review their home and vehicle security camera footage for the suspect vehicle, suspects, or any other suspicious vehicles parked in the area on Saturday afternoon.

These suspects may be linked to a similar crime, which took place in the town of Hillsborough one hour prior to the burglary in Los Altos.

This is an active investigation, and information will be released as it becomes available.
