Los Altos Police Seek Public's Help in Assault Investigation

Los Altos, Calif. — September 17, 2024 — The Los Altos Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in an assault with a deadly weapon on an 89-year-old male Los Altos resident that took place yesterday, Monday, September 16, sometime in the late morning or early afternoon. Community members who live or were driving and witnessed anything that appeared to be out of the ordinary in the area of Foothill Expressway between Homestead Road and Cristo Rey Drive are asked to view their security camera footage from 11:30 AM-4 PM. 

On Monday, September 16, at approximately 3:23 PM, Los Altos Police Officers responded to a report from the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office of an unconscious person lying adjacent to the railroad tracks in the area of Foothill Expressway and Highway 280.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found an adult male victim who had sustained life-threatening head injuries. Santa Clara County Fire Department personnel had already arrived and were providing medical aid. The victim was transported to a local trauma center, where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. At this time, the victim is in stable condition. Preliminary findings suggest the injuries were due to a blow to the head.

Investigators detained and questioned a person of interest; preliminary investigation shows that the victim and the person of interest were acquainted. 

This is an active investigation, and information will be released as it becomes available.
