January 16, 2024 Death Investigation Final Update

Los Altos, Calif. — May 21, 2024 — The Los Altos Police Department and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office have completed their investigation into the deaths of Los Altos residents Steven Hooper (74-year-old male) and Chris Cryer (66-year-old female), whose bodies were found Tuesday, January 16, at approximately 1:20 PM, during a welfare check at a residence in the 200 block of West Edith Avenue. 

The cause of death for both individuals, indicated by toxicology reports, was the combined use of alcohol and various drugs. There was no indication of foul play or intentional death. 

Los Altos Police extends its heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the families of Steven Hooper and Chris Cryer. We ask the Los Altos community and our media partners to allow the families time to mourn and grieve this latest update with privacy.
