Contractors can use SolarAPP+ for faster rooftop solar permits. SolarAPP+ is a streamlined permitting process for licensed solar contractors. Contractors submit a project to SolarAPP+ which uses software to automate the plan review process. For the city of Los Altos, SolarApp+ will instantly issue the permit after payment is complete. Installation practices, workmanship, and adherence to the approved design are verified in the inspection process. 

Before applying for an automated solar plan review and solar permit, projects must follow certain requirements. At this time, SolarAPP+ is designed to provide a code-compliance check for the majority of residential, roof-mounted, retrofit photovoltaic systems. To see which systems are eligible, please refer to the Eligibility Checklists. Only projects that conform to this lists are eligible to use the automated SolarAPP+ portal for instant permitting.

Get Started

Eligibility to use SolarAPP+
  • Main Dwelling Rooftop, Permitted, Residential structures only.
  • No ballasted or ground mount systems.
  • Licensed contractors only.
  • Active Los Altos Business License is required.
Submit for Automated Review Through SolarAPP+
  1. Submit your design to www.gosolarapp.org.
  2. Click "Sign in" or "Register" to get started.
  3. Complete the SolarAPP+ application.
  4. A $35 processing fee will be charged by SolarAPP+.
  5. Download SolarAPP+ Approval Document.
Apply for Permit
  1. Log into or register for an eTrakit contractor account
  2. Under "Permits" you will select "Apply/New Permit" and select SolarApp fromt he dropdown. 
  3. Upload your approved set of documents and enter your SolarAPP+ approval number to proceed.
  4. Complete the permit application process.
  5. Print your issued permit once the application is complete.
Schedule Your Inspection
  • Inspections are scheudled online using your eTrakit account. 
Revisions
  • Submit for a revision through SolarAPP+
  • You will be provided with a revised SolarAPP+ Approval Document.
  • Navigate to the Customer Self Service Portal.
  • Log in to the account associated with your SolarAPP+ permit.
  • Navigate to Dashboard and click Active Permits.
  • Find the SolarAPP+ Permit Application you’d like to revise.
  • Under the Attachments Tab you can add a Revision file.
  • Schedule another inspection through your eTrakit account.
