Single-Family Residential Design Review
Projects that include exterior alterations, additions, or new construction in the Single-Family (R1) District are subject to the City's design review requirements and process.
The Residential Design Guidelines serve as the guide in planning and executing a successful design of new and remodeled single-family dwellings. The design policies and implementation techniques in the Guidelines are not meant to discourage individual designs. Rather, they set forth the implementation of the findings that must be made for design review applications, serve as a basis for design review decisions, and assist in developing consistency in the approval process from neighborhood to neighborhood across the City. The primary purpose is to guide property owners toward successful solutions to their needs and to maintain the existing positive physical qualities and character of the residential neighborhoods of Los Altos.
