City of Los Altos Launches City Permit-Ready ADU Program

Los Altos, Calif. — February 15, 2025 — The City of Los Altos is rolling out its City Permit-Ready Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Program, a streamlined solution designed to make it easier for property owners to add affordable housing units.

The program offers three pre-approved ADU floor plans (studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom) in three distinct architectural styles (Mediterranean, Traditional, and Contemporary). These plans have been reviewed and approved by the City's Building and Planning Divisions, significantly reducing the time and costs typically associated with designing and permitting ADUs. These plans are available free of charge to all Los Altos property owners.

By simplifying the ADU construction process, the City Permit-Ready ADU Program supports the City's commitment to increasing housing options and affordability for all income levels. The program is intended to encourage more homeowners to consider building ADUs, providing much-needed housing for families, seniors, and workers in the community.
