City of Los Altos Collecting Input for Safety Element Update

Los Altos, Calif. — June 17, 2024 — The city of Los Altos is surveying residents as part of the regular update to the Safety Element, one of the nine State-mandated components within the general plan.

The Safety Element—updated every eight years to address protection against various natural and man-made disasters—plays a crucial role in the City's long-range planning efforts. This specific element aims to ensure the safety and resilience of the entire community by mitigating the potential short- and long-term risks of injury, death, property damage, and economic and social disruption resulting from wildfires, droughts, earthquakes, climate change, and other potential hazards.

Residents can complete the survey online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/HMCPJWM or pick up a printed version at the City’s Adult 50+ Program location at the Los Altos Community Center. The deadline to respond to the survey is Sunday, July 7. The survey will collect statistical data from residents, business owners and their employees, and other community members to guide decision-making on safety measures, preparedness strategies, and other potential improvements for the Safety Element.

Community members will have multiple opportunities through workshops and pop-ups to learn about and provide feedback on the Safety Element Update.
