Street Maintenance
The Street Maintenance division maintains 104 miles of city streets and is responsible for ensuring safe conditions for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. Street Maintenance responds to pothole repairs within 24 hours of notice, provides an effective response to emergency storm damage and flooding, and responds to shoulder flow line and drainage problems.
Street Sweeping Schedule
The Street Sweeping Routes follow our new solid waste contractor's schedule in order to allow residents to remove their garbage and recycling containers from the street prior to the sweeper coming the following business day.
The residential routes are schedule in the first two weeks of the month and swept once per month. Additional sweeping may be scheduled during heavy leaf drop.
The City of Los Altos Street Sweeping service is capable of removing only natural leaf fall, originating from the tree canopy overhanging the street. Street sweepers cannot and will not remove piles of leaves or sweep where any additional debris has been added (including from yards and sidewalks/right-of-ways). Mission Trail Waste Systems provides 90 gallon green waste toters that are serviced weekly. Also available twice a year are two 4’x4’x4’ debris bags without additional fees.
Please DO:
- Leave the leaves where they naturally fall in the street.
- Place excess leaf fall and yard waste from the property and right of way into green waste toters or debris bags.
- Rake leaves off of storm drains when flow is impeded.
Please:
- do NOT: Put leaves into piles in the street.
- do NOT: Move leaves or debris into the street (including from the yard or sidewalk/right-of-way).
