City of Los Altos Announces Self-Serve Compost Station Availability for 2025

Los Altos, Calif. — February 22, 2024 — The City of Los Altos is excited to announce the compost program's availability for 2025. The self-serve compost station will return for three weeks:  

  • Wednesday, April 9 - Friday, April 18
  • Wednesday, June 4 - Friday, June 13  
  • Wednesday, September 10 - Friday, September 19 

During these allotted times, it will be open 24/7 and will be refilled regularly. This year, the station will be located at the Los Altos Community Center parking lot (97 Hillview Avenue). 

Residents must supply their own containers and gloves and may load up to 32 gallons of compost (the equivalent of 2.5 standard kitchen garbage cans). Shovels are provided. Designated parking spaces are marked directly adjacent to the compost station.  

This program is open to Los Altos residents only and is not available for commercial use. Residents must complete a waiver prior to using the compost station. Hard copies will be available on site, as will an on-site QR code.
