If you are opening a new business, you will need to apply for a new business license.  If you are  buying an existing business, or transferring business ownership, you can request an account information update.

All new businesses and existing businesses moving their location within the city of Los Altos must complete and submit the Zoning Approval Application (or Home Occupation Approval Application) to the Business License Division for approval by the Zoning Administrator within the Planning Division. The Zoning Approval Application is required by the City to determine that the business is operating within an appropriate zone. The associated fee is due at the time of submittal.
