Live Streaming City Council Meetings Now Available on Tablets and Smartphones
Los Altos, Calif. – October 24, 2013 – The City of Los Altos is pleased to report that the new City website is now fully compatible with smartphones and tablet devices.
Since launching the new website in August, some community members commented that they were unable to view live streaming City Council meetings using certain mobile devices. The City immediately began looking for a solution.
The City contracts with Granicus Inc. to record, stream, and archive City Council and Planning and Transportation Commission Meetings. Previously, Granicus required users to download a Microsoft Silverlight plug-in in order to view live streaming videos. Those seeking to view live streaming video via certain mobile devices were unable to download the necessary plug-in. The Granicus system has now been updated, at no cost to the City, to allow live streaming video using HTML 5, making the videos accessible to all users.
The City is pleased to offer a solution that will enhance the mobile website experience and better allow community members to tune in to City Council as well as Planning and Transportation Commission meetings. In addition to viewing archived and live streaming online video via desktop and mobile devices, these meetings may also be viewed live on Comcast Channel 26.
