Open Streets Los Altos Extended For Labor Day (thursday-monday evening)

The City of Los Altos is now hosting Open Streets Los Altos, an event designed to benefit local restaurants, retailers, residents, and visitors. 

Every Thursday through Monday morning, Main and State Streets are closed to vehicle traffic so downtown restaurants and retailers have the space needed to serve customers while following current guidance from Santa Clara County.  

Tables and chairs will be properly distanced to maintain more than six feet between individuals. Face-coverings are required on the closed streets except when eating or drinking and children two years of age and under.

While the downtown parking plazas remain open, we encourage residents to walk, bike, or ride-share to the event. Those enrolled in the Recreation and Community Services Department’s Adult 50+ program can be reimbursed for the cost of using an online ride-share service to Open Streets Los Altos.  Contact the Department at (650) 947-2797 for details.

Are businesses still open during Open Streets Los Altos?

Retailers and restaurants will be open to the public. Restaurants are allowed to have outdoor seating, while retailers are allowed to have a limited number of customers in their shops at one time. Attendees will be required to wear a mask, unless they are eating or drinking at a restaurant table.

Can I still bike down the streets when they are closed?

For the safety of the residents on the street, Open Streets Los Altos is pedestrian only. No bicycles, scooters, skateboards, or roller skates are allowed on the closed streets. We encourage residents to bike to the event; bikes should be placed in the designated bike rakes.

Do I have to wear a mask at Open Streets Los Altos?

On the closed streets everyone must wear a face covering. This applies to everyone, except when eating or drinking and those under the age of two.

What COVID-19 protocols are businesses following?

Business are required to follow the County guidelines for re-opening:

  • Six patrons per table from the same household;
  • Maintaining more than six feet of separation between all other tables and customers;
  • Designating a COVID-19 Supervisor;
  • Must complete and display their social distancing protocol, COVID-19 PREPARED sign, and Visitor Information Sheet at a main entrance; 
  • Sanitize and disinfect tables and chairs between every customer;
  • Alternative dining options, such as curbside pickup, takeaway, or delivery;
  • Alcohol may only be sold with food;
  • Bar areas are to remain closed;
  • No outside vendors or entertainment allowed;
  • Prohibiting communal areas for individuals outside of the same household to congregate;
  • And hand sanitizer stations should be available to customers.

What times are the streets closed?

State and Main St. will be closed from Thursday morning (6AM) to Monday morning (6AM). There will be barricades and signs directing traffic around the closed streets. During the street closure, parking is still available in the parking plazas.
