City of Los Altos Social Media Policy
The city of Los Altos reserves the right to regulate comments posted to official social media channels. Content posted to City social media sites, including comments, shall not include the following:
- Comments not related to the original topic, including random, unintelligible, or false comments;
- Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation;
- Profane language or content;
- Comments in support of, or in opposition to, any political campaigns, candidates, or ballot measures;
- Threats to any person or organization;
- Sexual content or links to sexual content;
- Solicitation of commerce;
- Engagement in, or encouragement of, illegal activity;
- Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; or
- Content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party.
By engaging in social media, the City’s intent is not to create a public forum, but to maintain a moderated online discussion directly relating to topics posted by the City that is appropriate for all audiences.
