4600 El Camino Real Incident Update #4
Los Altos, Calif. — January 24, 2024 — Santa Clara County Fire Department (County Fire) continues to collaborate with the City of Los Altos, California Department of Transportation, and business and property owners of 4600 El Camino Real to bring the Christmas day incident to a close.
A contractor has been secured and mobilized equipment onsite on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 23. A systematic dismantling of the building is scheduled to begin around noon on Wednesday, January 24. This will consist of removal of the roof and second story of the building over the next several days. Following completion of this work, the building will be deemed safe to enter and fire investigators can complete their work to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
The current closure of El Camino Real between San Antonio Road and Sherwood Avenue will remain in place for the duration of this work.
County Fire recommends media report to the intersection of Sherwood Avenue and Acacia Avenue (at the rear of 4600 El Camino Real) on Thursday, January 25 at 1 PM. A PIO will be available to conduct interviews at this time.
