New Los Altos Community Center Will Open Doors October 2

Los Altos, Calif. — July 14, 2021 — The City will officially open the doors of the new Los Altos Community Center to the public during its Grand Opening on October 2.

The community is invited to the ceremonial Los Altos Community Center Grand Opening, October 2 at 2PM, at 97 Hillview Avenue. Mayor Neysa Fligor, Councilmembers, and many others instrumental to the project's success will unveil the highly anticipated addition to the civic center, followed by various activities and tours showcasing all that the new community center has to offer.

“This project is a culmination of many years of hard work and commitment from residents and city leaders and staff,” said Mayor Neysa Fligor. “I hope residents will join us for the grand opening and, more importantly, utilize the beautiful space and participate in the programs offered at the community center.”

The 24,500 square foot sustainable community center includes dedicated space for senior, teen, and kindergarten preparation programs, as well as flexible indoor and outdoor community gathering spaces to accommodate rentals, various recreational programs, classes, and events. Additional amenities include a playground, commercial kitchen, bocce ball courts, and space for a future café.

“From the dedicated spaces for seniors and teens to the environmental materials used in the design, this community center reflects our community's values and priorities. I am very excited that we will finally have a brand-new community center that the entire Los Altos community can enjoy for years to come,” Mayor Neysa Fligor added.

Noll & Tam Architects designed a space, built by Gonsalves & Stronck Construction Company and managed by Nova Partners Inc., that reflects the unique character of Los Altos and serves all segments of the community, using feedback provided during the robust community engagement process.

“Every aspect of the new Community Center, from the architecture, landscaping, building materials, and art strongly ties into Los Altos’ rich history and culture,” said Donna Legge, Director of Recreation and Community Services. “Our mission is to create a space for everyone, and we are excited to continue driving inclusivity and accessibility through recreational programs, services and social opportunities hosted at the Los Altos Community Center.”

As the move in continues, the focus will be on training staff and supporting the management and operation of the community center. Next steps include removing the fencing currently surrounding the community center; the fencing will come down July 22. While the community center will not officially open until later this fall, the parking lot will be available for public use.
