RFQ - City Hall Staircase Project

The Los Altos Parks, Arts, Recreation and Cultural (PARC) Commission seeks an artist interested in working with us in designing and painting art on the City Council Chambers staircase at City Hall located at 1 North San Antonio Road in Los Altos.

Project Goals:

• Enhance the visibility of the steps.
• Feature high quality, unique artwork.
• Demonstrate an understanding of maintenance and longevity with regards to working with cement stairs.
• Successful collaboration between the chosen artist and the PARC Commission.

The theme of this project will be developed further in the planning phase. Artist compensation for the full project will be based on what is included in the proposal from the selected artist.

RFQ Timeline:

• January 29, 2024: Request for Qualifications (RFQ) released
• February 26, 2024: RFQ due
• Mid-March 2024: Set interviews
  • Artist selected to prepare full proposal with design concepts and budget
• April 2024: Artist(s) notified and contracts written

Application:

• Complete a Letter of Interest (2 page limit).
  • Outline why you want to develop a proposal for this project.
  • Explain how you intend to approach the process.
  • Outline your experience with similar projects.
  • Outline how you would handle maintenance of this project.
• Short biography of the artist (1 page limit).
• Applications should be submitted via Call for Entry (CaFE) website.

Selection Process:

The RFQs will be reviewed by the PARC Commission. In-person or virtual interviews will be conducted before the final project artist is selected.

Selection Criteria:

• Artistic quality of submitted work samples.
• Experience and ability to complete the project based on prior projects.
• Understanding of maintenance.
• Experience and ability to collaborate with the PARC Commission.

Rules and Terms to Apply:

• Work must be original and not violate copyrights or trademarks.
• The artist search is open to all artists, but the PARC Commission is unable to reimburse for travel expenses.
