The City Provides Relief to Los Altos Small Business With Grant Program

Los Altos, Calif. – May 19, 2020 – Last Tuesday, the City Council approved the Small Business Relief Fund, a grant program providing small businesses with financial support during the coronavirus pandemic.

During the April 28 City Council Meeting, $250,000 was allocated into the Small Business Relief Fund by the City Council. City staff is working closely with the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce and the Los Altos Community Foundation to expand the current funds to offer further assistance.

"Over the last three months, I've witnessed businesses confront the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic with creative solutions. Unfortunately, for many, it is not enough to survive. Recognizing the uncertain longevity of the Order's restrictions, it was necessary to act quickly,” said Mayor Jan Pepper.

The Small Business Relief Fund will offer grants of $5,000 for qualified small businesses with a storefront in Los Altos, which have at least one but no more than 25 full-time employees; the grants must be utilized for business expenses.

The grant application will be available on the City website at losaltosca.gov/businessrelief, along with the most up-to-date information regarding grant eligibility requirements and the application process.

A video tutorial will help guide applicants through the application process. “As we face unprecedented times, we face them together; that's why we are also calling upon Los Altos Hills and the community to offer their support. Community members who want to increase the size of this fund can make a donation via the Los Altos Community Foundation,” Mayor Jan Pepper added.

The City will accept applications online, Tuesday, May 26, at 8:00AM. Applications must be submitted by email to econdev@losaltosca.gov. All aspects of the application must be complete, or it will not be applicable for the program.

Grants will be awarded through an online lottery on June 15, for qualified applicants who have submitted a complete application during the allocated application period. More details on the lottery will be released shortly.
