Americans with
Disabilities Act (ADA) Priorities
DATE: may 26, 2010
TO: City Council
FROM: Traffic Commission and Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee
SUBJECT: ADA Priorities
BACKGROUND
Los Altos BPAC has revised its list of potential ADA projects
to reflect:
- ADA access into Rancho Center from NW corner of Foothill
Expressway and Springer Road as having been accepted for submission for
CDBG fiscal year 2010-2011 funding.
- Re-adding a project accidently dropped off the 2009 list of
projects.
RECOMMENDATION
The BPAC recommends the following prioritized list of projects
to address ADA requirements within the City of Los Altos:
ADA compliant sidewalk west side of St. Joseph Avenue,
Foothill Expressway to Montclaire School
Includes widening around light poles, resurfacing
extensively uneven pavement, and fixing (at least one) excessively
steep driveway. Note: various bicycle issues exist along the same
stretch of roadway. More details exist on the city file server at
P:\Engineering\Traffic Commission in a file called St Joseph.
Rectify problems with Berry Avenue wheel chair ramps
Three ramps locations have excessive slopes: SW corner of
Golden @ Berry; SW corner of Russell @ Berry; SW corner of Springer @
Berry.
Municipal Service Center Driveway modifications
This is the driveway into the Municipal Service Center by
the tennis courts. There is no sidewalk across the driveway,
wheel chairs must traverse where the driveway slopes down to the
street. The Los Altos Sub-Acute & Rehabilitation Center is
located nearby and patients have challenges traversing the slope of the
driveway.
BPAC has begun keeping a list of non-ADA compliant ramps at
various intersections. Staff will find the list on the city
server at: P:\Engineering\Traffic Commission\ADA issues_2010(BillC).doc
